At Inland Empire Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, we offer exceptional healthcare for children. Their safety and comfort are our top priority.

Reasons Why Some Children Might Need Oral Surgery

One of the most common reasons why we see young pediatric patients is the presence of extra teeth, also known as supernumerary teeth, buried deep within the jaw bone and preventing adult teeth from emerging properly. This is common in kids 5 to 8 years of age.   Sometimes children are referred to us for removal of baby teeth that are more complex or may have a significant infection and require higher levels of sedation.

As children develop in pre-adolescence and adolescence, they can develop crowding of their teeth, causing their canines or second molars to be stuck or impacted. Typically, the orthodontist would identify this problem and refer to us for management.

Lastly, we commonly treat teenagers ages 15 to 21, who require removal of their wisdom teeth.

  • Removal of impacted supernumerary or extra teeth
  • Removal of ankylosed or impacted primary or baby teeth
  • Retrieval of impacted canines
  • Uprighting of impacted second molars
  • Removal of wisdom teeth

Anesthesia

When it comes to kids, our priority is to make a safe and comfortable environment for them during their visit with us.  We have a variety of sedation options, from nitrous gas to IV sedation. We will also bring in an anesthesiologist to assist us with cases for young children and those with special needs.
